ATHLETICS Ugandan Rotich Kwemoi wins Milan marathon

Over 6,500 participants ran the individual marathon, while more than 16,500 people took part in the non-competitive relay marathon to support non-profit organizations.

The 21st Enel Milano Marathon witnessed an impressive performance by Ugandan runner Andrew Rotich Kwemoi, who clinched the top spot by completing the marathon in 2:07:14.

He was followed closely by Kenyan runner Timothy Kipkorir Kattam, who finished just 39 seconds behind with a time of 2:07:53.

Rwandan John Hakizimana came in third with a time of 2:08:18. 

Meanwhile, Ugandan Soyekwo Kibet finished eighth in the race, clocking 2:10:57, over three minutes behind his compatriot. 

Despite not finishing on the podium, Italian runner Yeman Crippa's debut marathon performance was quite impressive.

He managed to stay in the leading group until the final three kilometers when he faced some difficulties.

He finished fifth narrowly missed breaking the Italian record for the marathon distance, but he still managed to enter the national top ten of all time.

Over 6,500 participants ran the individual marathon, while more than 16,500 people took part in the non-competitive relay marathon to support non-profit organizations.

The relay marathon has already raised over 800,000 euros for donations.

The former world champion of the 100m freestyle Philip Magnini and Italia Viva senator Matthew Renzi also participated in the event.
