Ugandan youngster takes first steps of putting the country into sprinting map.

Diamond League debutant Tarsis Gracious Orogot impressed in the French capital as he crossed the finish line ahead of many acclaimed sprinters on the 8th stop of a trailblazing Wanda Diamond League circuit.

The Ugandan, stationed on lane seven, finished 2nd with an impressive 20.18 behind Alexander Ogando of Dominican Republic who claimed victory in 19.98.

In a tense race hampered by a brutal headwind, a starting mishap did little to calm nerves as the athletes were all shown the green card.

A second start was successful and had Orogot flying off the blocks from lane 7. Ahead of him was Ivorian Traore Cheickna who ended up not finishing the race.

Ogando reeled in on those ahead of him leaving just Orogot chasing for glory as the rest of the field fell widely behind.

Frenchman Zeze Ryan finished 3rd in 20.48 while Italian Filippo Tortu came in fourth in 20.53. Jerome Blake of Canada and Reais William of Switzerland crossed the line 5th and 6th.

Twenty one year-old Orogot seemed very nervous before gun of but showed great composure as he applied pressure on Ogando in the final straight.
