Success Umukoro and Miracle Thompson were awarded for their exceptional performances this season in the NJCAA circuit.
Success Umukoro and Miracle Thompson have been awarded Track Athlete of the Year of the Central and West Region for their outstanding performances this season.
Umukoro, a student of South Plains College, has been in exceptional form this season, smashing her Personal Best (PB) and School Records on several occasions.
At the just concluded NJCAA Championships, she was unbeaten throughout the championship, successfully defending her 60m title in an impressive time of 7.36s. She did this after running a brilliant PB of 7.35s in her qualifying heat to make the final.
For Thompson, breaking and running new SRs in every of her meets this season has been a piece of cake for the Cloud County student.
She has lowered her 60m Hurdles and 60m PB in all her races this year, and the NJCAA Indoor Championships was no different.
On the first day of the championship, Thompson sped to the history books with a blazing PB and SR of 8.27s in her 60m Hurdles heat, propelling her to fourth on the all-time NJCAA indoor list plus erasing her SR of 8.29s. While in the 60m, she clocked a new PB of 7.47s, qualifying for the final in both events.
Then in a closely contested final, the sprint hurdler ran a new PB and SR of 8.25s, settling for the silver medal in the 60mH, with the winner just 0.01s ahead of her.
Thirty minutes later, she ran another lifetime best of 7.47s for a bronze medal finish in the 60m final. She was also part of her school's 4x400m relay quartet that took home a bronze medal in the event.
Both ladies will be looking forward to having an exceptional outdoor season, gunning to break their outdoor records as well.
