World 10,000m bronze medallist Margaret Kipkemboi is hoping to go one step better as she eyes a slot at the World Championships scheduled for August 19 to 27 in Budapest, Hungary.
The qualifying time in the women’s 10,000m at this year’s global event is 30:40.00 and Kipkemboi promised to work hard in order to fly the country’s flag high.

“I want to work hard and qualify for the World Championships…that’s my main target. I want to go and do better there where I hope to be competing over the 10,000m race,” Kipkemboi said.
So far, she has not competed in any 10,000m track race but has competed in a couple of other races. She opened her season with two Cross-country races in January where she settled for second and fourth places respectively.
She then went for the Lisboa Half Marathon where she settled for second place before competing at the 10km road race at the Adizero Road to Records where she finished sixth.
She also placed 13th over the 5000m at the sixth Athletics Kenya meet before finishing second at the Kip Keino Classic Competitions.
Speaking after her second-place finish at the continental event, Kipkemboi expressed her excitement towards finishing second in 15:16.28 behind Commonwealth Games 5000m champion Beatrice Chebet.
