The couple made it all the way to Texas, United States, to support and cheer their son as he battled with a host of other aspiring stars in 100 and 200-metre track races.

Musician-turned-politician Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu and his wife Barbie Itungo were, for the first time, present as their son Solomon Kampala Kyagulanyi raced in a practice routine.

"Keeping this here for future reference… some day, we will come back to this video to remind ourselves of how it all begun," Barbie posted on her Facebook page.

"And..guess what? This is our first time to attend Solomon’s track races. We’ve never been to any of his training sessions or anything like that. He is self motivated! We are amazed! Go champ! Go!"

As Kampala prepared to grace the race, Bobi Wine appeared to be tense, conceding he was under "more pressure than the athlete."

It should be noted that months back, Kampala joined the Texas A&M Corpus Christi track team in the United States.

Kampala is a 200m runner who even scooped bronze in the Ultimate Race Nights in Dubai in March 2023 after running 23.09 seconds, which is his personal best to date.

In April last year, still in the national athletics trials, Kampala missed out on the spot in the national team going to the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, by a whisker.

He ran 24.72 seconds to finish third in his heat, and eventual winner Allan Ngobi finished with 21.08 seconds.

Meanwhile, it should be noted that Texas A&M Corpus Christi has the 'Fall 2023 Intramural Sports Program' that provides students with various recreational sports and activities.
