Kiptum made his debut at the Valencia Marathon last year and ran the third-fastest time in the marathon to win the race.

The fastest marathoner in the world, Eliud Kipchoge, is not worried about his legacy even with the fast-rising marathoners including youngster Kelvin Kiptum.

Kiptum made headlines during the 2023 London Marathon when he ran the second-fastest time in a marathon to win the event. Kiptum clocked 2:01:25 to break Kipchoge’s course record time but missed out on the 38-year-old’s world record by 14 seconds.

Kiptum made his debut at the Valencia Marathon last year and ran the third-fastest time in the marathon to win the race. He clocked 2:01:53 to win Valencia but at the time, not much was being said about him until his recent feat.

Concerns have been raised on whether the 23-year-old will take a run at Kipchoge’s 2:01:09 world record this fall.

“Kelvin Kiptum has all power to do what he wants. I have done enough. I trust that what I have done in the world will be respected. In any case, I wish him well. But I aim to make Berlin a good and beautiful race. I want to enjoy it for the sixth time.

I want to run a good race and cross the finish line by celebrating. I’m not in a rush for anything. Because I am the person to run under 2:00. If Kiptum runs under 2:00, he will always be the second. I’ll be the first one. So, I have no worries at all,” Kipchoge said as per Letsrun.com.

At the moment, Kipchoge is the greatest marathoner of all time having won the Boston and London Marathon titles four times. He has also won the Tokyo and Chicago Marathons once and he boasts of two Olympic titles.

The only World Marathon Majors he is yet to conquer are Boston and New York City. Earlier this year, he went to Boston but unfortunately finished sixth due to a problem he had with his left leg. His next stop will be at the Berlin Marathon where he intends to win his fifth title.

He is also targeting to be the first man to win the Olympic marathon title thrice as he plots for victory in next year’s Paris Olympics.
