Africa's fastest man will be up against tough opponents at next month's Word Championships but he has a secret weapon up his sleeve
Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala will be heading to the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary in the form of his life and he will be expecting to be the first African to medal in the 100m at the global event.
However, it will not be easy since he will be lining up against some other great 100m runners including the reigning World champion Fred Kerley of the USA and former African record holder Akani Simbine of South Africa.

Reigning 200m World champion Noah Lyles might also be in the mix, contesting for top honours. The trio pose a big threat to Omanya's hunt for glory since they are the only ones who have defeated him since the 2023 season started.
However, the Commonwealth Games 100m champion remains unfazed and he is relying on his great skills to rescue him when he takes on the tough opponents.
“I’m a good championship runner so I’m looking forward to Budapest. I’m really looking forward to getting through the heats, the semi-finals, and getting to the final…that’s the main thing. I’m going to win the men’s 100m title at the World championships,” Omanyala said.
His previous race was the Diamond League Meeting in Monaco where he executed the 100m in style and took top honours in 9.92.

“I think that’s the fastest time in the Diamond League this year. My target is to run 9.60 eventually. Going forward, I want to work on my speed and maintain consistency,” he added.
