If Usain Bolt would not have been retired, then he would have been the most followed athlete since he has 13.3 million followers

If you ask track and field fans from all over the world to name the most followed athlete on Instagram, they would probably mention the likes of five-time World 100m champion Shelly-Anne Fraser-Pryce, newly crowned World champion Sha’Carri Richardson or even double world champion Noah Lyles.

Some might even go ahead and tell you that Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala is the one but the truth is, the most followed athlete comes from India.

Reigning World javelin champion Neeraj Chopra is the king of the field and also the king of Instagram. The 25-year-old has a total of 6.3 million followers.

Just at 25 and coming from India, a country where very little is known concerning sports, Chopra is the reigning Olympic champion, Diamond League Trophy winner, and also a former World javelin silver medallist.

Other athletes who have huge followings on Instagram include Richardson, who has 2.3 million followers at the moment, thanks to her dominant exploits at the just-concluded World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

400m Hurdles world record holder Sydney McLaughlin and World champion Yulimar Rojas also make the list having accumulated 1.1 million followers. T

They are closely followed by former World champion Fred Kerley who has one million followers and Fraser-Pryce with 915,000 followers on Instagram.

If Usain Bolt would not have been retired, then he would have been the most followed athlete since he has 13.3 million followers on his page.
