The 2022 London Marathon champion Amos Kipruto is bubbling with confidence ahead of his highly anticipated title defense on 23rd April 2023.

The dedicated family man wants so badly to retain the title and fully dedicate the glory to his children. Kipruto revealed that he has invested most of his time in preparing for the 42km race and hardly has time to spend time with his children.

“My kids usually want me to spend time with them but I’m usually busy trying. I want to fight for the best in London for them,” he said, as quoted by Nation Sport.

Kipruto is aware of the tough field the race has attracted including Ethiopia’s Kenenisa Bekele, the second fastest marathoner in the world and compatriots Kelvin Kiptum and Geoffrey Kamworor.

“The field is really strong this year but I want to go and fight for the best. I have trained extensively with my coach and what’s remaining is for me to show the whole world that is was working hard,” he said.

During last year’s edition, the 30-year-old stunned big wigs to win the marathon in 2:04:39. He revealed that the race was tough with him being Kenya’s sole representative. In March last year, he had placed second behind world marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge at the Tokyo Marathon.

“I got that opportunity to run in London and I couldn’t afford to waste it. It was a very tactical race and I was well prepared for the assignment,” he recalled.
