Barnaba Korir has admitted that he keeps getting surprised by how Kenya is a powerhouse in producing great sports personalities and executing successful events.
Kenya has been known not only to be a hotbed of athletes but also a great host to athletics events from the cross-country to championships including the World Under-20 Championships that were held back in 2021 in Nairobi.
The latest event to be hosted has been the Sirikwa Classic Cross-country that was held at the Lobo Village in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.

ATHLETICS Daniel Simiu, Emmaculate Anyango reign supreme at Sirikwa Classic Cross-country
Daniel Simiu and Emmaculate Anyango stole the show to claim the top honours at the Sirikwa Classic Cross-country.
“I keep on getting surprised because I thought I had seen it all in athletics but now every time we plan on hosting something, we get surprised.
“The success of this event culminates from what we have been doing so far in other activities but this one has reached another level because we have many people who have shown up and communities have also come, young ones and old.
“This is something that is special for us and the people have also learned from this program and they have made progress and we encourage the county governments to be part of this sports development which the CS Ababu Namwamba has set up an initiative to nurture talent,” Korir said.
He urged that the government should be keen on taking advantage of the fact that the Ministry of Sports will be in support of the initiative.
Korir also insisted that Athletics Kenya is in the right direction when it comes to hosting sporting events and raising the bar for athletes.
“As a nation, this is the direction that we have to take…this is the level that other countries have also reached.
