Olympic 100m champion Noah Lyles explains how fiancée Junelle Bromfield played a crucial role in his Paris glory.

American track star Noah Lyles was highly favored to win the men's 100-meter race at the Paris Olympics, which would solidify his title as the fastest man in the world.

The nail-biter race ended in a stunning photo finish, in which it was nearly impossible to tell if Lyles beat Jamaican sprinter Kishane Thompson.

After a minutes-long deliberation, it was confirmed that Lyles' torso crossed the finish line first by five-thousandths of a second. Once his incredible victory was announced, Lyles ran to the stands to celebrate with his family, including his girlfriend Junelle Bromfield, a fellow sprinter for Team Jamaica.

Lyles' feat at the quadrennial show came after he learnt his lesson the hard way in the delayed Tokyo Olympic Games when he was forced to battle depression. Working alongside therapists in Paris, his need for space, the six-time world champion was granted his wish to seclude himself from others in order to fully focus on the 100m title.

His concentration and seclusion was helped by the fact that he was only allowed to eat at ‘very random times’ alongside girlfriend Junelle Bromfield according to TalkSport. During this time, Junelle would encourage her fiancee to believe in his abilities and that the title was his to lose going by his preparation.

The emotional support from Bromfield and her ever presence on his daily routine at the Olympic village is credited for Noah Lyles achievement.

The couple has known each other since 2017, but they weren't anything more than friends back then. However, in 2022, they reconnected, and in December, they made it official through social media that they were dating.
