Both Peres Jepchirchir and Beatrice Chebet won their races but Jepchirchir will walk away with more money.

World 5000m bronze medallist Beatrice Chebet, Olympic marathon champion Peres Jepchirchir, and Berlin Half Marathon champion Sabastian Sawe on Sunday earned themselves hefty prize money thanks to their dominant exploits at the World Road Running Championships in Riga, Latvia.

However, as per World Athletics, the winners of the half marathon will receive more money than the rest of the other races.

For instance, after winning the half marathon titles, Sawe and Jepchirchir will both walk away with Ksh Ksh 4,381,050.

Unlike the duo, Chebet, the reigning World Cross-country champion, will only walk away with Ksh 1,460,350.

The second and third-place finishers in the half marathon will pocket Ksh 2,190,525 and Ksh 1,752,420 respectively. In the women’s category, Margaret Kemboi and Catherine Reline finished second and third respectively.

In the men’s race, Daniel Simiu and Samwel Mailu completed the podium, taking the second and third places respectively.

Athletes who finished fourth, fifth, and sixth will walk away with Ksh 1,314,315, Ksh 1,168,280, and Ksh 1,022,245 respectively while the seventh-placed and eighth-placed athletes will pocket Ksh 876,210 and Ksh 730,175.

The athletes who finished ninth, 10th, 11th and 12th will pocket Ksh 584,140, Ksh 438,105, Ksh 292,070 and Ksh 146,035.

In the women’s 5km, Lilian Kasait who finished second will pocket Ksh 1,095,262, and Ejgayehu Taye who finished third will walk away Ksh 876,210 respectively.

The athletes who finished fourth, fifth, and sixth were awarded Ksh 438,105, Ksh 365,087, and Ksh 292,070 respectively. The seventh and eighth-place finishers will bag Ksh 219,052 and Ksh 146,035 respectively.

In the road mile, the winner, Diribe Welteji will walk away with Ksh 1,460,350 while second-place finisher Freweyni Hailu will pocket Ksh 876,210, and Faith Kipyegon will walk away with Ksh 511,122.

The athletes who finish fourth, fifth, and sixth will walk away with Ksh 292,070, Ksh 182,543, and Ksh 146,035 respectively. The seventh and eighth-place finishers will bag Ksh 109,526 and Ksh 73,017 respectively.
