Sebastian Coe is one of seven candidates running for the International Olympic Committee (IOC) presidency, aiming to succeed Thomas Bach in 2025, leveraging his experience as a double Olympic champion and World Athletics president.
World Athletics president Sebastian Coe is gearing up for a tough challenge as the race for the International Olympic Committee (IOC) presidency ramps up.
Seven candidates have already confirmed they will be vying for the coveted IOC seat. They include Sebastian Coe, Prince Feisal al Hussein, Kirsty Coventry, Johan Eliasch, David Lappartient, Juan Antonio Samaranch Jr, and Morinari Watanabe.
Sebastian Coe has been instrumental in shaping the World Athletics font and he will be looking to transfer the same energy to the International Olympic Committee if he gets a chance. Thomas Bach, the current president of the IOC, has already announced that he will step down at the end of his second term in 2025.

Sebastian Coe- How sport can become a 'key vehicle for change' on global issues
Sport can be a discipline that impact the communities in a positive way according to World Athletics President Sebastian Coe.
“Olympic sport is fundamental to my DNA. I had the privilege of being a double Olympic Champion. I’ve chaired an Olympic and Paralympic Games, London 2012, from bid through delivery and legacy implementation,” Seb Coe said as per Inside the Games.
“I’ve chaired a National Olympic Committee, the BOA, and I’ve led an international federation through some turbulent times, retaining athletics’ position as a cornerstone of the Olympic Games.”
If he gets the chance to take the reins, he will become the first Briton to be the IOC president since 1894. Being a former athlete himself, Seb Coe will also add his expertise in running the IOC.
"If you do right by the athletes, you've done 80 per cent right. A lot of the criticism I’ve had from people in the sporting world that I find a bit depressing is based on the assumption that good politics is about playing it safe and… not leaving the herd or taking the occasional risk. And bad politics is about doing just that,” he recently said as quoted by The Associated Press.

Seb Coe claimed the 1500m titles at the 1980 and 1984 Olympic Games. He also earned a silver medal in the 800m at both the Moscow and Los Angeles Olympics and claimed the European 800m title at the 1986 championships in Stuttgart.
