Kinyamal put up a good fight that saw him clinch the title in a world-leading time of 1:43.22.
Commonwealth Games champion Wycliffe Kinyamal has placed his World Championships heartbreak behind him after his dominant display in the men’s 800m race at the Diamond League Meeting in Monaco on Friday night.
Kinyamal put up a good fight that saw him clinch the title in a world-leading time of 1:43.22 as Algeria’s Slimane Moula finished second in 1:43.40. Canada’s Marco Arop was third after clocking 1:43.51.

ATHLETICS ‘I came for that’ - Confident Kipyegon not surprised by world record feat in Monaco
The double world and Olympic champion maintained her great form when she obliterated the mile record, her third such achievement in 50 days
His focus is now on lowering his Personal Best time of 1:43.12 as he looks forward to competing in other races.
“I am looking forward to making good races. I am hoping to run my PB really soon. It was my second time running at this meeting, I ran here last year. I really love this meeting,” Kinyamal said.
The 26-year-old missed out on a Team Kenya slot to the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary after finishing fourth behind trailblazing Emmanuel Wanyonyi, Kipng’etich Ngeno, and Ferguson Rotich.
The trio will team up with defending champion Emmanuel Korir with the hope of raising Kenya’s flag high at the global event. However, Korir is not in his best form yet and hopefully, he will be doing much better when D-day comes.
Kinyamal was, however, selected in the men’s 4x400m relay team but unfortunately, they did not make the cut in good time. Team Kenya is ranked 30th and as per World Athletics rules, only the top 16 teams were to be selected before the window period elapsed.
