23-year-old Emmaculate Anyango raring to go at the Sirikwa Classic Cross-country on Saturday.

Youngster Emmaculate Anyango is the athlete to watch when the senior women toe the line at the Sirikwa Classic Cross-country on Saturday, February 3.

Anyango, the second fastest woman over 10km will lead a stellar line-up and she is in great form to dominate once again as she stole the show at the 10K Valencia Ibercaja in January.

She finished second behind Agnes Ngetich to become the second woman in history to run 10km under 29 minutes and she is clearly not stopping at that.

Her closest challenger will be Grace Loibach Nawowuna, who was fourth at the World Cross Country Championships in Bathurst.

Also, in the mix will be former London Marathon champion Joyciline Jepkosgei who will be looking to open her season on a high.

World half marathon bronze medallist Catherine Reline who was in a class of her own last season will be looking to continue her winning streak.

Janeth Chepngetich also entered the race and she will be keen to improve on her third place at the Great Chepsaita Cross Country Run, a Bronze label event.

Meanwhile, the men’s race will see World Half Marathon silver medallist Daniel Simiu take on a strong field with the hope of impressing on home soil. He will be making his debut at the event.

He will be up against former World 10,000m silver medallist Stanley Waithaka who is just coming back into competition from an injury setback. Ishmael Kipkurui will also be in the mix, hoping to upset his opponents.

Nicholas Kimeli is also one to watch at the event and having had a mixed season last year, he will be looking to bounce back stronger.

Athletics Kenya will use the event to select its team for the African Cross-country Championships slated for February 25 in Tunis.
