Team Nigeria captain, Anuoluwapo Opeyori has been eliminated from the Paris Olympics after his second consecutive defeat in the men's singles of the Badminton event.

The Nigerian badminton star, who had hoped to bounce back from his opening loss, faced a tough challenge against China's sixth-ranked Li Shi Feng.

Opeyori could not overcome the formidable opponent, falling 2-0 (21-17, 21-17).

Opeyori joins other Nigerians that have been eliminated

The captain joined other Nigerian athletes who had been eliminated from the Paris 2024 Olympic games.

In the table tennis event at the Olympics, Nigeria suffered early eliminations as Offiong Edem and Fatimo Bello were eliminated in the women's singles first round.

In the men's singles, Quadri Aruna and Olajide Omotayo faced early elimination.

Also, Nigeria's Women's team, the Super Falcons, were knocked out after failing to pick a point in Group C; losing to Brazil, Japan and World Champions Spain.

In Boxing, Olaitan Olaore has also been eliminated from the Paris 2024 Olympics after losing to Kazakhstan’s Oralbay Aibek in the first round, with Aibek winning all three rounds by unanimous decision (5-0).

Meanwhile, Nigeria is hoping that the Women's Basketball team, D'Tigress, will make the country proud when they face France in their second game after a historic feat against World number 3 Australia.

As the Athletics event is set to flag off fully, the country is hopeful of securing medals with the team led by World record holder, Tobi Amusan.

Also, the Wrestling event is another event where the hopes of over 250 million Nigerians rest on the athletes to deliver medals.
