The new development follows a letter from the National Council of Sports (NCS) addressed to the Federation of Uganda Basketball Association (FUBA) over the availability of the Indoor Arena in Lugogo.
The 2023 National Basketball League season will not tip off on 10th March, as earlier scheduled.
The new development follows a letter from the National Council of Sports (NCS) addressed to the Federation of Uganda Basketball Association (FUBA) over the availability of the Indoor Arena in Lugogo.
The letter, seen by Pulse Sports, advised FUBA to look for alternatives for its activities with the arena not available 10th March due to planned renovations.
“We regret to inform you that the Indoor Stadium will be out of use from 10 to 12 March to enable repair works within the facility,” reads a letter from NCS, signed by General Secretary Bernard Ogwel, to FUBA.
Arnold Katabi, FUBA Vice President Marketing, Media and Publicity, confirmed to Pulse Sports that the federation was aware about the development and that it left them with no option but to postpone the first league games of the season,
"We (FUBA) are aware of NCS' stand, which is unfortunate because we had planned to start the league on the 10th, so we have to push the league tip-off forward," he noted.
"We want the opening games at the Arena because the plan is to use the Arena for as many games as possible for the upcoming season."
Katabi also confirmed that a new date would be communicated in due course, most probably in the coming week, along with the latest fixtures.
"A new date for the league tip-off will be communicated early next week, probably with the release of the new season's fixtures."
