Like Oketcho, the small forward missed a big part of the training program and only joined the team last Wednesday. Zainah Lokwameri, Agatha Kamwada, and Leticia Awor are the small forwards who made the cut ahead of Amoding.

Veterans Maureen Amoding and Angella Namirimu have been dropped from the women’s national basketball team, Gazelles.

The two have been training to fight for a place on the final team that will represent Uganda in the Fiba Zone V Afrobasket Qualifiers slated for February 14-19 in Kampala.

Namirimu had tough competition in the point guard position. Team captain Flavia Oketcho, Evelyn Nakiyingi, and Shakirah Nanvubya are the point guards who remain part of the 15-man team that enters camp this week ahead of the tournament.

For Amoding, it was always going to be tough to make the final cut. Like Oketcho, the small forward missed a big part of the training program and only joined the team last Wednesday. Zainah Lokwameri, Agatha Kamwada, and Leticia Awor are the small forwards who made the cut ahead of Amoding.

Becky Anyu and Sarah Namale are the other players dropped after Sunday’s practice game.

One of the players who have impressed throughout the training sessions is youngster Shillah Lamunu. The shooting guard has been in good shape and impressed in Sunday’s practice game.

She makes the cut and is among the 13 remaining locally based players. Perus Nyamwenge, Ekone Brenda, Ritah Imanishimwe, Hope Akello, Bridget Aber, and Sarah Ageno are the other players selected.

Of the 13 players to enter camp, three will be dropped in the end to accommodate Maria Najjuma and Jannon Otto.

The two players will join the team on February 12, some hours before the start of the tournament. The team will enter camp Tuesday at Onomo Hotel.
