At the 2024 Paris Olympics, Nigeria's D'Tigress to face Canada, Australia and France at Paris 2024 Olympics.
Nigeria's D'Tigress 75-62 Australia
The African team put on a great display, taking advantage of Australian mistakes to win in front of yet another sizable audience in Lille.
Nigeria finished the first half with a stunning 11-0 surge, giving them a 13-point lead going into the locker rooms.
That proved sufficient for them to cross the finish line, and with four minutes left in the final frame, the Opals managed to make it a one-shot game.
But Amy Okonkwo's massive triple calmed Nigerian nerves and got them going again.
Other than the heroics of the entire Nigerian team, this will go down in history.
But without a doubt, Ezinne Kalu was the class act that led them to this unforgettable triumph.
The playmaker was on fire, finishing with 19 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals in her first international game since Tokyo 2020.
Nigeria scored a whopping 26 points from turnovers as a result of Australia spilling the ball an incredible 26 times during the match.
Particularly in the first half, when they nearly gave their opponents a point every minute from that source, it made all the difference.
Considering their poor start, D'Tigress were excellent and this win could prove to be the cherry on top of the forecasts regarding Group B.
D'Tigress will now take on Canada and France in their other group games.
