Defending champions Nigeria's D'Tigress touchdown in Kigali for the 2023 Women’s Afro Basketball Championship.
In preparation for the 2023 Women's Afro Basketball Championship, which starts tomorrow, Nigeria's D'Tigress have made their way to Kigali, Rwanda.
The group, led by coach Reno Wakama, left Nigeria on Tuesday and landed in Kigali yesterday morning.
The ladies are prepared for their opening encounter against DR Congo tomorrow, followed by a match versus Egypt, according to reports from the camp.
D'Tigress list for the 2023 Women’s Afro Basketball Championship
The provisional squad list was made public by D'Tigress head coach Rena Wakama earlier this week.
On Tuesday, the team's Twitter feed shared the 18-player list and raised a lot of eyebrows
Following the open tryouts for the women's team, which took place from July 8 to July 11, in Chicago, Lagos, and Abuja, the list was compiled.
The team's captain for the 2021 Afrobasket victory, Adaora Elonu, as well as Promise Amukamara and Ezinne Kalu are not present on the squad.
Other competitors from the 2021 team who did not make the list were Victoria Macaulay, Ify Ibekwe, Oderah Chidom, and Nicole Enabosi.
In the team from 2021, that will represent Nigeria in Kigali include Sarah Ogoke, Elizabeth Balogun, Pallas Kunayi-Akpannah, Nkem Akaraiwe, and Amy Okonkwo.
The team also includes Toyosi Abiola, Tomi Taiwo, Onaibe Believe Jessica, Theresa Anta Joy Ebiega, Okoro Ifunaya, and Hembam Wandoo.
Adeyeye Adebola, Amanda Okodugba, Blessing Ejiofor, Olawuyi Adenike Olayemi, Mac-Dangosu A. Theresa, Murjanatu Musa Linan, and others are also involved.
The competition is scheduled to take place from July 28 to August 6 at the Kigali Arena in Rwanda.
The Women's Afrobasket has been won by D'Tigress the last three times.
On July 29, Nigeria will face the Democratic Republic of the Congo to open their championship defense, followed by Egypt two days later.
