Rena Wakama leads Nigeria's D'Tigress to beat Senegal 84-74 for 4th straight Women's Afrobasket title.
Nigeria's senior women's basketball team known as DTigress, made history in the Women's Afrobasket final on Saturday, August 5, 2023.
D'Tigress recorded a 84-74 victory against Senegal to be crowned the 2023 FIBA Women's Afrobasket champions.

In a tough final, D'Tigress were able to take a commanding start with a 19-10 margin establishing a nine-point lead at the end of the first quarter.
The Senegalese kept it close in the second quarter with a 24-21 margin for D'Tigress extending their lead to 12 going to the halftime break.
Coming out for the second half, Senegal played with more urgency and were able to take the third quarter 26-19 reducing the deficit to five.
The fourth quarter was back and forth between the two best teams of the tournament as Senegal continued to close the gap but D'Tigress took it to win the game by 10 points.
The victory means that D'Tigress set a record for four straight Women's Afrobasket titles.
D'Tigress newly appointed Head Coach Rena Wakama, also became the first woman to lead a team to the Afrobasket title.
The victory means that D'Tigress will now compete for a spot at the women's basketball event of the 2024 Olympics.
D'Tigress top performers
Amy Okonkwo in 37 minutes put up 14 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and provided two assists.
Ifunaya Okoro added 16 points and four assists and two steals in 23 minutes.
Elizabeth Balogun in 35 minutes produced 15 points, two assists, five rebounds and two blocks.
