African sides Angola and Egypt have been eliminated from the 2023 FIBA World Cup from the group stages following a bag of mixed results on day three of the tournament in Manila.
In group A, record African champions Angola were defeated 75-67 in a close game against the Dominican Republic in their final group game.
The defeat leaves them with a 1-2 record in three games and four points, with Italy set to book a ticket to the next round with a victory over the Philippines.
Silvio De Sousa scored 19 points for the Angolans, but it wasn’t enough for the African side as they failed to secure a win that would guarantee them a knockout berth.
North African side Egypt won their final group game of the tournament, defeating Mexico 100- 72 in Manila to seal third place above their opponents in Group D.
Lithuania and Montenegro booked their tickets to the next round in the group, but the Egyptians can take solace in a Saleh Ehab-inspired win( 22 points, ten rebounds).
Ivory Coast, Cape Verde and South Sudan are the other African representatives and will be in action tomorrow on day four of the FIBA World Cup.
