According to Hudson Ssegamwenge, the FUBA general secretary, the move is aimed at ensuring that the selected players are well-prepared and have the proper documentation ahead of the 2024 FIBA U18 qualifiers.
Local basketball governing body FUBA has moved to address the documentation issues amongst the junior teams by holding trials for the U-18 boys and girls.
According to Hudson Ssegamwenge, the FUBA general secretary, the move is aimed at ensuring that the selected players are well-prepared and have the proper documentation ahead of the 2024 FIBA U18 qualifiers.
"We have a U-18 qualifiers campaign coming up early next year in both the boys and girls category; hence the reason for the national team's trials, we want to identify the players that fit in that age category," Hudson told Pulse Sports in an interview.

"The last campaign (in Tunisia), we had a shortage of players because we were hit with documentation issues, and we want to erase that and prepare early before March/April.”
"We have realized that it's good to prepare early; the teams we compete with prepare early (Mali, Egypt), so we also want to do that; we hope to have a camp in December and March next year where we shall have a final team,” he added.
The Junior Gazelles and Silverbacks competed at the 2023 FIBA U16 Championships, with the Junior Silverbacks finishing 10th overall, with their only win coming against Morocco in the group stages.

BASKETBALL Ugandans thrilled by FIBA recognition of improved Ugandan girls’ basketball
FIBA confirmed the development at the association’s awards ceremony held in Manilla, Philippines, on Wednesday, revealing Uganda was the second most improved team (Girls) between 2021 – 2023.
The Junior Gazelles finished sixth after reaching the quarter-finals in the same competition but also lost to Morocco in the 5th place playoff.
Uganda, at the just concluded FIBA congress in the Philippines, was recognized as the nation with the most improved girls' basketball programme.
The icing on the cake was the Gazelles finishing seventh at the 2023 Women's Afrobasket tournament in Kigali, winning against sides including Senegal, DR. Congo and Guinea.
The trails will be held between September 9th and 10th at the Kampala International University in Kansanga.
