BASKETBALL It's all systems go for AfroCAN Championship as Team Kenya squad is named

Team Kenya return to the championship after a third-place finish during the first edition in 2019.

A team of 29 players has been selected for the second edition of the FIBA Africa-organised AfroCAN Championships in Angola in July, with dates to be confirmed later.

The Morans return to the championship after a third-place finish during the first edition which was held in 2019 and they will be hoping to go one step better in the second edition. Kenya has been pooled in Group A alongside Gabon.

The squad comprises 19 players from the local leagues including Victor Bosire (Equity Bank), Eugene Adera (Kenya Ports Authority), Dolphine Otieno (Kenyatta University), Siaji Davies (Unattached), and Eric Mutoro (Ulinzi Warriors).

Others include Ariel Ortega (USIU Tigers), Dennis Koja (Strathmore University), Griffin Ligare (Nairobi City Thunder), Dismass Mbaku (Nairobi City Thunder), James Mwangi (Equity Bank Dumas), Brans Nzioka (Ulinzi Snipers), Kennedy Wachira (Unattached) and Lennox Wanje (KPA Dockers).

Job Byron (KPA Dockers), Brian Shivachi (KPA Dockers), Paul Raburu (African Nazarene University), Ivan Ombiru (Kenyatta University), Joseph Gitau (Stanbic Bank), and Victor Ochieng (Equity Bank Dumas) are also in the mix.

The players who compete for international teams include Derrick Ogechi, Devyne Marble, Ariel Okal, Fidel Okoth, Bush Wamukota, Paul Ereng, and Peter Sifuma. Ronnie Gundo, Albert Odero, and Tylor Ongwae have also been called up.

The team will be under the tutelage of head coach Cliff Owuor. Assistant coaches Collins Gaya, Ancent Wafula, and Duncan Ndeda have also been appointed. Erastus Wainaina will be the team’s physiotherapist.

Mercine Milimu has been appointed as the Team Manager with Moses Wanjara being appointed as the assistant Team Manager.
