Otto scored 14 points and 10 rebounds on Sunday and averaged a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds in the tournament.

The ultimate goal for the Uganda Gazelles was to win the Fiba Zone V AfroBasket Qualifiers in front of the home crowd to book a ticket to the Fiba AfroBasket.

But that was always going to be tough coming up against teams like Egypt and Kenya. And indeed, it was Egypt that ended up with the ticket after a 74-65 win over the Gazelles Sunday night at the Lugogo Indoor Stadium.

The Pharaohs, who lost to the Gazelles on Wednesday set the record straight with a commanding performance to silence the partisan home crowd and book a direct ticket to Kigali, Rwanda for the continental showpiece.

For Uganda, there are many reasons to celebrate and one of those is the introduction of Jannon Otto to Ugandan basketball.

The small forward was Uganda’s first option on offence and found buckets even when the going got tough for Alberto Antuna’s charges.

And her exploits were rewarded with being named on the tournament’s best five. She was the only Ugandan to make it to the team even though there were shouts for Brenda Ekone after her display that troubled all teams.

Otto was named as the small forward on a team that also has South Sudan’s Teny Nyamuoch, Kenya’s Madina Okot and the Egyptian duo of Moussa Reem and Raneem Elgedawy.

Elgedaway also walked away with the MVP award.

Otto scored 14 points and 10 rebounds on Sunday and averaged a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds in the tournament.

The Luxemburg based player played big minutes on her debut, averaging 36 over the five games of the tournament.
