The FIBA Awards Ceremony, on its first day, was part of the 12th FIBA Congress that will go on till the FIBA World Basketball tipoff on Friday.
National Federations were recognised and celebrated for their achievements at the ceremony with various awards.
The Junior Gazelles were named second best in the National Federation Progression Award (girls' category), which is given to the top three most improved National Federations between 2021 and July 2023.
The overall award was clinched by Slovenia's Junior female team while Tanzania, Portugal and Samoa were jointly named third.
The youthful side has enjoyed relatively steaming form for the past year, as they also managed to clinch a spot in the FIBA U16 Afrobasket in Tunisia.
There, they managed relative success as they attained a sixth finish, there best ever, having lost the battle for fifth to Morocco (65-56).
Meanwhile, the National Federation Ranking Award, which is awarded to the top three ranked National Federations, was clinched by the US for the women and Spain for the men.
