On Friday night, the KCCA Leopards and the Magic Stormers collide at the YMCA grounds in league action, looking to build on their impressive winning streaks that currently have both sides in the upper regions of the table standings.
The KCCA Leopards enter the game on a two-game winning streak, having secured impressive victories over the A1 Challenge (81-60) and the Nkumba Lady Marines (84-64).
Currently sitting in sixth place, the Leopards have shown significant improvement recently.
However, the Leopards will face the challenge of competing without the services of Falidah Kadondi and Martha Soigi.
Falidah Kadondi currently represents Makindye Weyonje at the 2023 East Africa Netball Clubs Championships in Kenya, while Martha Soigi is absent from the game for unknown reasons.
Interim head coach Brian Wathum remains optimistic, emphasizing the need for other players to step up in the absence of Kadondi and Soigi and lead the team to victory.
"We have had a week off, which has allowed the team to focus on improving our cardio, an area we felt we lacked. I believe the players are ready to give their best," Wathum told Pulse Sports.
On the other side of the court, the Magic Stormers enter the fixture in a decent run of form, having triumphed in their last two games against the Nkumba Lady Marines (84-40) and the Kampala University Ladies Basketball Club (48-41).
Currently occupying fourth place in the league table, the Stormers are poised to continue their upward trajectory.
The Stormers will rely heavily on Kur Ajah, their leading scorer, who averages an impressive 16 points per game and contributes four steals per game.
Ajah's offensive prowess will be critical to the Stormers' pursuit of a third consecutive victory.
Acknowledging the Stormers' impressive record, Wathum maintains confidence in his team's abilities and believes a win would bring them level with their opponents in the standings.
"We have the utmost respect for them as opponents; they are a well-coached team with a commendable league record."
Nevertheless, we enter the game confidently, fully prepared to secure the win," Wathum added.
Historically, the Leopards have had the upper hand in their head-to-head encounters, winning their last three matchups against the Stormers.
However, as both teams vie for crucial momentum as the first round draws close, the stakes are high, making a victory imperative.
The outcome of this game could significantly impact the teams' positions in the league, adding an extra layer of excitement to an already thrilling season.
