The Leopards have, since 2018, had to watch the finals from the stands following the rise to the top of JKL Lady Dolphins.

KCCA Leopards have been in search of a first National Basketball League title since 2014 in vain.

Spells under Robert Mugabe, Rogers Sserunyigo and Ali Mavita have all yielded little success in nearly a decade.

The Leopards have, since 2018, had to watch the finals from the stands following the rise to the top of JKL Lady Dolphins.

Players and coaches have come and left, but winning the league title remains a distant memory for the Kasasiro Girls.

Swept by JKL in last season’s semifinals, the Leopards had their work cut out going into the offseason.

And as the new season draws closer, there has been some house cleaning done at the club to improve results.

Mavita was the first to step aside to concentrate on her Score Beyond Project, which meant that KCCA needed to hire a new coach.

American Miller Fitzgerald is the new coach in charge, according to the team manager Becky Akullo.

The club also lost some of its key players from last season and has had to bring in new faces to replace them.

Leticia Awor and Becky Longom joined JKL to leave a gap. Ruth Letaru has also crossed to JT Lady Jaguars.

In response, KCCA has acquired the services of some experienced players to steady the ship alongside other veterans like Angella Namirimu, Leane Nalunkuuma and Martha Soigi, who are surviving squad members.

Former UCU Lady Canons’ guards Peace Nakirijja and Ruth Kirungi are among the recruits.

Joy Chemutai, who has spent time out of the game, is also back in the team’s set-up.

KCCA will face a tough challenge in the race to the league title.

Teams like JKL, Lady Canons and newly promoted Lady Jaguars look much more potent.

KIU Rangers have also recruited well and are expected to make some noise this season.

The Leopards will open their campaign in a clash with last season’s runners-up, JKL.
