The Eaglets expect to put up a fight against the top sides when the season starts, and the players brought in seem to have understood the assignment.

With the new National Basketball League set to tip off on Friday, different teams have been restrategizing and planning for the regular season.

One of those teams is Miracle Eaglets. The team unveiled seven players ahead of the new season in a press conference held at Verses Hotel, Rubaga Tuesday morning.

Among those unveiled are seasoned campaigners expected to guide the younger players as the team tries to challenge the top order.

Maureen Atulinda and Susan Amito are the two experienced faces unveiled. Atulinda is fresh from maternity leave, and last played for JKL Lady Dolphins but is raring to go again.

“I’m ready for the challenge. I have been working out, and I can’t wait to help the team,” Atulinda said after being unveiled.

The Eaglets expect to put up a fight against the top sides when the season starts, and the players brought in seem to have understood the assignment.

“We want to compete and not just take part,” forward Denise Tekitendwa, another recruit, said.

Pauline Nabatanzi, Lilian Mbabazi, Aisha Lunkuse and Margaret Nassali are the other new acquisitions for Arnold Katabi’s charges.

Last season, the Eaglets finished sixth at the end of the regular season and faced KIU Rangers in the quarter-finals.

The Rangers might have swept the Eaglets 2-0 to eliminate them, but it was never a smooth ride for Rogers Sserunyigo’s side.

And with players like Brenda Alyano, Lillian Cherotich, Winifred Akello, Specious Namusoke and Shifah Nalukenge still part of the team, the Eaglets have a unit that should be good enough to put up a challenge.

“We are small in number but big at heart,” Katabi told Pulse Sports.

UCU Lady Canons defeated JKL Lady Dolphins in last year’s finals, and the two will be expected to challenge for the championship once again.

Fuba Division One champion JT Lady Jaguars have already won two pre-season tournaments to send a message to the rest of the league, while KIU Rangers have new additions.

It is expected the women’s division will be a lot more competitive this season, and the Eaglets want to make some noise.
