Defending champions City, Oilers kickstarted the quest for their tenth successive National Basketball League with an absolute show of dominion over former winners Dmark Power.

The Oilers trumped Power 73-38 at the MTN Indoor Arena, Lugogo on Sunday.

Both teams were playing just their first game of the 2024 NBL season.

It promised a close contest after the opening quarter, which City  Oilers narrowly took with a 20-16 lead.

However, Power were a no-show in the next three quarters, managing a total of just 22 points. They hit 2, 12 and 6 in the second, third and fourth quarters, respectively.

City Oilers had the likes of James Okello (18 points), Ivan Muhwezi (17 points), Fayed Baale (13 points) and Titus Lual (12 rebounds) to thank for on a dominant evening.

Muhwezi, who also managed 6 (six) rebounds and 2 (two) assists, was subsequently named the Player of the Game.
