The Magic Stormers leapfrogged to second place on the women’s National Basketball League log with a 59-49 win over A1 Challengeat the YMCA grounds on Wednesday.
In a very competitive game from start to finish, both teams kept it close as the largest lead was the eight points A1 Challenge had towards the end of the first quarter.
This was partly due to the 69 turnovers combined by both teams as they both failed to grab a stranglehold on the game.
It was untill the fourth quarter when the Stormers could take the initiative and later win the game.
Magic Stormers head coach John Omondi credited his young side for their competitive spirit and execution of the full press game plan that ultimately got them the win.
“We have a young squad with lots of energy and were able to implement the full-court press when needed, and we knew it would work as we had studied our opponents,” Omondi told Pulse Sports.
Magic Stormers are second momentarily after this win, and Omondi knows it is essential that his side keeps on piling up the wins as they aim to secure a good seeding for the playoffs.
“It is important that we keep on getting the wins and take each game as it comes because we want to be in a favourable position for the playoffs when they do come around.”
Sera Yahweh finished with a game-high 14 points for the A1 Challenge as they had their three-game winning streak snapped and will look to get back to winning ways when they face table toppers, the JT Lady Jaguars.
