In the latest chapter of what is evolving into a fierce rivalry within the National Basketball League, the UCU Canons and KIU Titans are set to clash in game one of the 2023 semi-finals.

In a prelude to the series opener at the YMCA court scheduled for Friday night, Titans' head coach Julius Lutwama has downplayed the significance of extra rest in determining the victor of game one.

The KIU Titans enjoyed a brief respite since their quarter-final triumph over the KCCA Panthers last Sunday.

At the same time, the UCU Canons had to overcome Power in a challenging game three on Wednesday night.

Lutwama expressed his views: "The additional rest won't be a decisive factor in tomorrow's game, as their fitness levels are higher than ours. They played on Wednesday while we've had a few days off."

He continued: "It might have a minor impact, but that's something we might consider as the series progresses, not in this particular game tomorrow."

Lutwama emphasized the mental and physical preparedness required when facing UCU, acknowledging their relentless effort throughout the full 40 minutes of play.

Discussing the significance of winning game one and its implications for the potential five-game series.

Lutwama stated, "Securing victory in game one holds great importance because, by default, you'd only need to win two more games to clinch the series, compared to having to win three out of the next four if we were to lose."

He reiterated: "Facing UCU automatically demands mental and physical readiness, as we anticipate a high-intensity performance from this squad."

The Titans have no major injury concerns ahead of tomorrow's game, with only a few players nursing minor knocks.
