UCU Lady Canons put on a display of grit and teamwork as they triumphed over KCCA Leopards 78-73 in the National Basketball League (NBL) played at the Lugogo Indoor Arena.

The defending champions were facing an uphill task against an undefeated KCCA Leopards side, but they rose to the challenge and showed why they are the team to beat this season.

Prosper Anyine, who made her first start of the season, was in sparkling form, scoring a career and game-high 23 points to go with four rebounds and two assists in 35 minutes.

The Lady Canons' depth was on full display as Millicent Otieno(13), Bridget Aber(11), Azida Nabayunga(16),Tracy Namugosa(10), and Prosper Anyine(23) all finished in double digits, demonstrating their collective strength and versatility.

Despite being short-handed due to injuries to key players like Shakirah Nanvubya and Hajjara Najjuko, the Lady Canons showed great resilience and character to win with an eight-woman rotation.

The Leopards came out strong in the first quarter, scoring 18 points to the Lady Canons' 10, but the defending champions fought back to take a narrow 28-29 lead into the break.
