Team captain Paul Odongo, Syrus Kiviiri, Chol Nyuot and Richard Ongom are some of the players still around from last season’s team that lost to City Oilers in the finals.
The Club has lost players like Saidi Amisi, Peter Obleng, Daniel Juuko, David Deng, Daniel Monoja, Ariel Okall, Collins Kasujja, Joseph Ikong and Kenneth Wachira.
Some of these moved to other clubs while Ikong relocated to the US and Juuko retired from the game.
Now in a bid to be ready for the season that tips off on March 10th, the club has unveiled the squad that will be charged with delivering the title this year.
The most vibrant name in the squad announced on Saturday at Abja Parks in Naalya is that of Burundian forward Landry Ndikumana, a five-time league champion with Oilers and finals MVP.
Ndikumana left Oilers two years ago to play for Urunani in his home country.
He left Uganda after five seasons and helped the Oilers to the 2019 championship averaging 14 points and nine rebounds against UCU Canons in the finals.
Another big name making a return to Ugandan basketball is Michael Makiadi.
The former KIU Titans, Power and City Oilers’ forward had a short stint with Oilers after playing for Rwanda’s Patriots.
He is no stranger to Ugandan basketball and played with Geoffrey Soro, another Blazers’ addition, and Odongo at Power in 2016.
Dickson Asiku and Carlos Ochi are the other signings made by last year’s runners-up.
Valentine Blair, who lost his place on the team after the signings made last season, is also back.
Head coach Stephen Nyeko still has room to add more players before the start of the season or in the mid-season transfer window.
