American basketball player of Nigerian descent Nneka Ogwumike had 21 points, 12 rebounds, and six assists as the Los Angeles Sparks beat the Phoenix Mercury, 99-93, in overtime early on Saturday, June 3, 2023.

With 1:03 remaining in overtime, Lexie Brown made her third 3-pointer of the game to increase the Sparks' advantage to 95-91. 

Jordin Canada led the Sparks (2-2), who also defeated Phoenix in their season debut two weeks ago, with 16 points and five assists in the game.

For the Sparks, who welcome Seattle to their home court on Saturday night, Layshia Clarendon added 11 points.

Phoenix  was led by Brittney Griner's 24 points and 11 rebounds. Sophie Cunningham and Taurasi each contributed 19 points.

In 28 minutes of action, Onyenewere, who joined the Mercury on a trade, made four of her nine shots and was two of five from three-point range.

She made just one of six shots from the field and missed both three point attempts in 21 minutes of action.
