Of the 19 players summoned, ten managed to turn up on Day One, with several out for various reasons.

JKL Lady Dolphins’ small forward Leticia Awor was present but not able to train due to an injury she sustained when her team faced off with the JT Lady Jaguars at the start of the National Basketball League second round.

The other locally-based players absent from Monday’s session were Shakirah Nanvubya and Bridget Aber, who are representing Uganda at the FIBA 3X3 Nations League in Kinshasa, DRC.

Ritah Imanishimwe, Hope Akello, Sarah Ageno, Evelyn Nakiyingi, Shilla Lamunu, Jane Asinde, Priscilla Abby, Victoria Mukisa, Lydia Babirye and Brenda Ekone are the players who trained.

Maria Najjuma is expected to join the team on Wednesday, while Melissa Akullu, Jannon Otto and head coach Alberto Antuna are expected to arrive this weekend and join the team on Monday.

US-based forward Claire Lamunu will be the last player to join the team.

Also absent from Monday’s session was assistant coach Mavita Ali.

The Gazelles are scheduled to train until July 15, when the final 12 will be announced. Those will then enter residential camp for two weeks before flying out to Kigali, Rwanda, for the tournament.

Uganda is in Group C alongside giants Senegal and Mali.
