Since leaving KCCA, Odeke has been coaching Division One side Nkumba Marines.
It is Monday evening and Power are going through their paces at the YMCA court in Wandegeya.
Assistant coach Luis Dingo is in charge of the session while team manager Linda Wefila follows proceedings from the side.
It is a completely different Power side from the one that featured in the league last season. In fact, the only recognizable face in the session is Samad Imran.
And he towers over everyone. At some point in the session he picks three offensive rebounds in a row before finally making a basket. Unplayable.
The closest challenger on the floor is Innocent Ochen, who has been deemed surplus to requirement at KCCA and is looking for a new home.
His biggest, if not only attribute is size but he has failed to impress, probably why he currently has no team and is trying out at Power.
The session that had two teams going at each other comes to an end and only about three players hurdle up to listen to Dingo and Wefila.
There is a familiar face as well. Former Uganda Gazelles head coach Timothy Odeke was watching the session from the stands and is later introduced to the players.
There is nothing official yet but inside sources told Pulse Sports that the former KCCA Leopards tactician is the next man for the job of resurrecting the giant in Power.
Bernes Ankunda, who was in charge last season, is now the technical director of the club.
Since leaving KCCA, Odeke has been coaching Division One side Nkumba Marines.
Money issues
Power went through last season without paying their players and that is the main reason why most chose a future away from the five-time champions.
Geoffrey Soro and Dickson Asiku were recently unveiled by Namuwongo Blazers while Innocent Ochera joined KIU Titans.
Francis Kasinde is rumoured to be on the books of newly promoted Kampala Rockets and Nasser Guddi remains a free agent, hesitant to continue with the club he has played for for about a decade.
Veteran Isaac Afidra knows the club in and out and will remain as the glue that keeps everyone together. But the search for players is still on at the club.
The National Basketball League was set to tip off on Friday but that has since changed to a later date due to the unavailability of Lugogo Indoor Stadium.
That postponement will be a relief to Power as they try to clean their house and get enough players for the season.
Reports suggest that the team could unveil a sponsor soon, and that will be the first step in the right direction.
Since losing Betway as lead sponsor at the end of 2021, the club has struggled to make ends meet and owes players money from last season.
It will require a big cheque to clear the pending arrears and attract new talent into the team.
