For Drileba, resilience is a factor the Gazelles have displayed, especially after they lost the first game to Kenya in the FIBA Zone V Afrobasket qualifiers.

City Oilers and the Silverbacks shooting guard Tony Drileba knows precisely what it takes for a team to fight back and win a basketball game.

Just under two months ago, Drileba and his City Oil teammates had to dig deep to win game seven of the National Basketball League finals series against the Namuwongo Blazers. The 4-3 series win earned them an eighth straight league title.

For Drileba, resilience is a factor the Gazelles have displayed, especially after they lost the first game to Kenya in the FIBA Zone V Afrobasket qualifiers.

"I have to credit the team for fighting and digging themselves out of situations to compete. That's how basketball is, especially when you are playing for your country against adversity," he said before adding.

"When you don the national team colours, you go out there and give everything because that is one of the greatest honours; everyone on that team deserves respect, including the coaches.

They have done a tremendous job for the nation, that's for sure."

However, The former Angles basketball club head coach highlights that the team needs an out-and-out shooter.

"From watching the games, I see that many of our points are not coming from either fast breaks or second chances or defensive lapses from our opponents."

"So we miss having an out-and-out shooter because that would help stretch the floor and open up those driving lanes."

The Uganda Gazelles started with a 53-61 loss to Kenya but managed to bounce back to win two consecutive games, a nail bitting 85-86 win over Egypt and a 74-53 win over South Sudan.

Uganda's next assignment will be on Saturday against Rwanda.
