Monday night’s 76-59 loss for Seiko and the Aztecs was his last game for the team.

Silverbacks guard Adam Seiko was looking to become only the second Ugandan to win the NCAA Championship when his San Diego State Aztecs came up against University of Connecticut in the final Monday night.

Incidentally, former Silverbacks centre Stanley Ociti won the championship with the University of Connecticut in 1999.

Monday night’s 76-59 loss for Seiko and the Aztecs was his last game for the team.

Seiko, alongside Nathan Mensah, Matt Bradley and Aguek Arop have all used up their eligibility.

All four players were crucial pieces for head coach Brian Dutcher as the Aztecs put together the deepest run in program history.

The Aztecs shocked the world en route to the program’s first-ever championship game.

And in the final game, there was nothing easy for the eventual champions.

The Aztecs cut the UConn lead down to six points in the second half after a three-pointer from Keshad Johnson and a Darrion Trammel layup with 7:37 left on the clock.

The lead would further fall as low as five when Johnson made both free throws following some UConn misses, but in the end, the Huskies were able to collect themselves and finish strong for the title.

The future could be clearer for Seiko and the other three seniors.

College basketball has, over the years, limited Seiko’s availability for the Silverbacks in major competitions.

The guard has yet to play for Uganda again since making his debut at the 2021 Fiba AfroBasket in Kigali, Rwanda.

He is a big piece for the George Galanopolous-coached side and, depending on where he goes after here, will be needed by the team in future engagements.

The March madness season pitted Seiko against his younger brother Arthur Kaluma of Creighton, in the Elite Eight.

Seiko and San Diego advanced, winning the close contest 57-58 to progress to the Final Four.

Lamont Butler hit a buzzer-beating jumper to win the game 72-71 for San Diego State to shove past Florida Atlantic and go to the championship game.
