Oketcho missed the first five training sessions as she was still out of the country but will now add her leadership to the squad that features a couple of rookies.

Uganda Gazelles have welcomed yet another player into the team’s training sessions.

Team captain Flavia Oketcho is the latest to join up with the rest of the team as preparations for the FIBA Women’s Afrobasket Championship intensify.

The team held its sixth training session Saturday evening at the Africa Bible University in Lubowa.

Oketcho missed the first five training sessions as she was still out of the country but will now add her leadership to the squad that features a couple of rookies.

With Victoria Mukisa getting injured in the first training session, the Gazelles were left short on numbers in the point guard position.

Evelyn Nakiyingi and Shakirah Nanvubya are the other options in the position.

Next to join the Gazelles camp will be US-based Melissa Akullu, who is expected at training on Tuesday.

Head coach Alberto Antuna will also be expected to join on Tuesday.

The Gazelles are scheduled to train until July 15, when the final 12 will be announced.

Those will then enter residential camp for two weeks before flying out to Kigali, Rwanda, for the tournament.

Uganda is in Group C alongside giants Senegal and Mali.

The Afrobasket tournament will run from July 28 to August 6.
