The announcement, which FIBA made on Friday, will see all the games in the competition played in Doha, with FIBA president Hamane Niang saying the FIBA central board was impressed by the Qatar basketball federation bid.

The Federation of International Basketball Association (FIBA) has confirmed the Qatar Basketball Federation as the host for the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup.

The announcement, which FIBA made on Friday, will see all the games in the competition played in Doha, with FIBA president Hamane Niang saying the FIBA central board was impressed by the Qatar basketball federation bid.

"The central board was impressed by the submission made by the QBF; I would like to congratulate them on behalf of the board for the quality of work they've already completed in putting this bid together." Niang told the FIBA media.

The FIBA General Secretary Andreas Zagklis emphasized the need to have the tournament in one city (Doha), creating a unique opportunity for the fans.

"To have all 32 participating teams based in one city for the FIBA Basketball World Cup will present a unique opportunity for fans to customize their World Cup experience," Andreas noted.

"It will be an interesting experience with fans accessing all the games in one place (Doha), which hasn't been the case over the years in the competition."

Qatar is positioning itself to become the most significant sports hub in the world; hosting major sports events like the 2019 FIFA Club World Cup and the 2022 FIFA World Cup was proof to the world that they have the financial muscle and human resources.

They have also hosted World championships in athletics, boxing, hockey, swimming, volleyball Motor GP among others.

With Morocco being the first African nation to ever reach a world cup semi-final, up to 5 billion people watched the tournament, with up to 1.5 billion watching the pulse-setting final between Argentina and France.

The FIBA Basketball World Cup is the most prominent basketball nations' tournament which takes place every four years.

The 2023 edition takes place in three countries, the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia, for the first time in the tournament's history.

The United States and Serbia/Montenegro are the most prosperous countries with five titles.
