Titus Lual and Fayed Bbaale, two of the most exciting players in the National Basketball League, are set to face their former team, the UCU Canons, as the City Oilers go for their seventh straight win of the season this Friday.
As the eight-time defending champions, the Oilers have dominated the league and are expected to retain their title this year. They also plan to compete in the Basketball Africa League (BAL) later this month.
Since joining the Oilers, both Lual and Baale have immediately impacted the team, becoming the league's most devastating 1-2 punch.
Titus has scored an impressive 91 points, while Fayed has contributed 89 points.
These two players have become a force to be reckoned with, and the Canons will have to bring their A-game to stop them.
For Bbaale, the upcoming game will be emotional, as he will be facing his old team for the first time since joining the Oilers. "It's going to be weird emotionally, but I will take it in good faith and try to have a good game. That's the beauty of competition," Bbaale told Pulse Sports.
The Canons, on the other hand, are coming off an 87-77 overtime win against Namuwongo Blazers and will be looking to end the Oilers' unbeaten start to the season.
They will be relying on their impressive three-point shooting, as they have shot 40% from beyond the arc compared to the Oilers' 33%. Jerry Kayanga and Jimmy Otim of the Canons lead the league in a three-point percentage of 54% and 45%, respectively.
One of the most exciting battles to watch out for will be between Peter Sifuma and Lual in the paint. Both players are dominant in that department, with Lual leading the league in blocks per game at 2.3 and Sifuma coming in second with 1.5.
However, it remains to be seen if Lual will play, as he is still nursing soreness from a terrible foul he suffered during their game against UPDF last weekend.
Despite the Canons' impressive record in three-point shooting, the Oilers go into the game as favourites, having won two of their last three games.
They won 71-57 in their last clash at the MTN Lugogo Arena at the end of last season.
The Canons will have to work hard to get their season to a winning record and end the Oilers' undefeated streak, while their opponents will be looking to gather more momentum as they prepare for continental affairs and extend their winning run.
