In a disappointing turn of events, the UCU basketball team will be unable to vie for their third consecutive championship at the FASU 3x3 championships in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The team, known for their dominance in the sport, cited financial constraints as the primary reason behind their inability to participate in the upcoming tournament.
UCU's sports administrator, Sam Lukaire, expressed his regret about the situation, emphasizing that factors beyond its control hindered the university's participation.
"We have various commitments during this period, and regrettably, our budget does not allow us to participate," Lukaire shared with Pulse Sports.
Lukaire further mentioned that the university's administration would take this opportunity to regroup and adequately prepare for future endeavours.
"UCU basketball will utilize this time to rebuild our teams and mobilize resources, ensuring that we are fully prepared to participate in the next available competition," he added.

BASKETBALL Nineteen Gazelles called up for FIBA Afrobasket preps
Head coach Alberto Antuna has maintained the team that helped Uganda qualify for the finals and only added seven players plying their trade in the US.
This unfortunate circumstance dashes UCU's hopes of clinching a third consecutive victory in the prestigious international tournament, having emerged victorious in the previous two editions in 2021 and 2019.
The consequences of UCU's absence extend beyond the FASU 3x3 championships.
The team's financial limitations will also prevent them from having a chance to compete in the FISU World University Games 2023 in Chengdu, scheduled for next month.
