Uganda Gazelles head coach Alberto Antuna has finally joined the team ahead of the FIBA Women’s Afrobasket.
The Spaniard has missed the bigger part of the preparations and only arrived in Uganda on Wednesday.
He joins the team with only two days left until it starts residential training and will have big decisions to make in naming the final team of 12 that will make the trip to Kigali, Rwanda.
Afrobasket is slated for July 28 to August 6, giving Antuna about two weeks with the team before its first game on July 28.
Having taken charge of the FIBA Women’s Zone Five Qualifiers, Antuna knows some of the players he is dealing with but was yet to interact with the new faces.
US-based players like Melissa Akullu, Jane Asinde, Lydia Babirye and Priscila Abby have never played under the Spaniard.
Assistant coach Nicholas Natuhereza has been in charge of the team since the training started.
