USA beats Germany
The USA stepped on the gas during the second period of the competition after getting off to a fairly poor start in the first few minutes.
With a strong 19-7 surge to close the half, they put Germany in the rearview mirror.
They could play the rest of the game on cruise control because they had secured a 41-29 lead at the half.
Jackie Young, who recorded her finest performance to date and contributed 19 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals, demonstrated the depth of the USA basketball team.
Her clutch shooting, which included making five of eight three-pointers, allowed her teammates to get more possessions.
With 44 points in the paint against Germany's 18 was the USA's advantage in paint scoring, and their bench scoring was enormous.
USA appeared to be too strong and too deep going into this tournament, as everyone had expected.
After their faltering start, they seemed so at ease during their performance and can perform better if necessary.
By beating Germany a top team, the USA sends a warning to Nigeria's D'Tigress and other quarterfinal teams that they are coming for Gold.
