Victor Oladipo will need surgery for the third time in four years after tearing his patellar tendon.
American athlete Victor Oladipo of Nigerian origin tore his left patellar tendon, according to the Miami Heat.
Due to the injury, Oladipo's availability for the start of the upcoming season and probably beyond is seriously questioned.
In less than four years, he has undergone two major surgeries after suffering a quadriceps injury above his right knee.
No schedule for a return will probably be available until after the procedure.
The Heat have suffered two severe injuries in their first three postseason games versus Milwaukee, with Oladipo's being the second.
The top-seeded Bucks are down 2-1 to the Eight-Seeded Miami Heat entering into Monday night's Game 4.
When Tyler Herro broke his right hand in Game 1 at Milwaukee, he was out for at least six weeks, which most likely means the rest of the season regardless of how far Miami advances.
Victor Oladipo to have surgery
Due to Herro's injury, Oladipo appeared to be given a larger part in Miami's guard rotation; he played 26 minutes in Game 2 and 19 minutes in Game 3 before getting hurt as the Heat defeated the Bucks.
Since first being hurt while competing for Indiana in 2019, Oladipo has missed 255 of a possible 374 games.
He has been labeled as inactive for 226 of those games, which is second most in the NBA after Orlando's Jonathan Isaac.
Oladipo may have just completed one of his season's best highlight-reel performances when he controlled a rebound at one end, dribbled at full speed downcourt, blew past three Milwaukee defenders on his way to the basket, scored, and celebrated by punching the air.
The following shot he took was his final one. He drove down the lane, passing two Bucks, then appeared to stumble as he tried to plant for his jump and immediately grasped at his knee as he landed.
In the 2021–22 season, Oladipo played in just eight regular-season games as he healed from a second operation to repair his right quadriceps tendon.
He participated in 15 playoff games for Miami last year before last summer's signing of a two-year contract to remain with the Heat.
He participated in 42 games for Miami this season, which is the most since 2017–18.
