In recent times, the female and male Nigerian national basketball teams have not had the best in preparations for major continental and global championships, due to the perennial lack of funds.

On multiple occasions in recent times, the financial burden of ensuring national teams participate in tournaments has been personally taken up by the President of NBBF, Engr. Musa Kida, but didn't this time round, as he has yet to be refunded for the previous investments.

Meanwhile, the Silverbacks play Cape Verde on Friday and Libya in a Sunday showdown.

In the 2025 edition of the qualifiers, Nigeria will be tasked to win at least two of the three games to stand a chance of making it to the Afrobasket.
