Uganda's Shadir Musa Bwogi and Catherine Nanziri are African Boxing Union Belt title holders.
National super middleweight champion Bwogi defeated Democratic Republic of Congo boxer Samuel Muloko in the Africa Boxing Union (ABU) East and Central Africa Super middleweight title fight held August 19 at the MTN Arena, Lugogo.
At the same time, Nanziri overcame Tanzania's experienced Egine Kayange to win the ABU African Women's Bantamweight title.
Bwogi won by Technical Knockout sending Muloko to the canvas in the fourth round to win the African title.
At the sound of the bell, in the main fight that got underway past midnight, Bwogi quickly chose aggression showcasing greater prowess and zeal than Muloko. The Congolese went defensive but shortly lost guard in the first round.
He was sent to the canvas in the first round but managed to muscle strength and get back to his feet.
In the proceeding rounds, Muloko struggled to hold off Bwogi who maintained aggression over defense.
While Muloko had managed to frustrate Bwogi, in the fourth round, Bwogi landed a vicious left bodyshot that sent his opponent kissing the canvas again. The referee declared Bwogi the winner by Technical KnockOut.
The victory is Bwogi's third consecutive Knockout. He defeated Uganda Police boxer Ivan Magumba by knock out in January.
He followed the same with James Mutumwa from Masaka Boxing Club in June.
Nanziri held off Kayange to maintain an excellent record in her fifth professional bout against the Tanzania who was fighting her thirteenth. She won by judges' decision.
The African Union Boxing triumphs now puts the Ugandan champions now have greater opportunities to land lucrative WBC, WBO, IBF and other top paid fights.
In the undercards, Conrad Sseruyange defeated Umaru Mukiibi by third round Knock Out while Jimmy Ngaboyeka gave John Egesa a professional debut to forget with a first round Technical Knockout.
