Uganda has sent eleven male boxers to compete for the first time in Africa Elite Men and Women Boxing Championships. The tournament is due from July 25 -to August 6 in Yaoundé, Cameroon.

Joshua Tukamuhebwa (captain, light welterweight)
Tukamuhebwa is the captain of the Uganda Bombers, having taken the mantle last year at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, where he reached the quarterfinals.
At the 2022 Africa Elite Championships, he also reached the quarterfinals and will look to break the Yaoundé jinx.
Before the Commonwealth Games, Tukamuhebwa earned himself the grim knack of knocking out opponents in the Uganda Boxing Federation Champions League. He currently boasts of nine Knockouts in 15 bouts.
Aged 23, Tukamuhebwa debuted in national colours in 2019 at the Africa championships in Morocco.
"We are going to achieve more this time round, given that everyone has showcased class while in the training camp," Tukamuhebwa asserted.
"We are four experienced boxers on the team, and we have shared with the rest what they need to take care of," he added.
Kassim Mulungi (featherweight)
Newbie in the boxing scene, Mulungi has turned heads and moved crowds.
Due to his superb performance in the boxing league, UBF preferred 18-year-old Mulungi, a featherweight from City High School, over Jonathan Kyobe, a bronze medalist at last year'syear's Africa Championships in Maputo, Mozambique.
Ukasha Matovu (welterweight)
Matovu is one of the most exciting boxers on the team. A crowd entertainer and flamboyant pugilist, Ukasha walks the talk.

The 23-year-old has been active on the boxing scene since 2016, with a solid left hook as his signature.
Solomon Geko (heavyweight)
Geko carries a wealth of experience to Yaoundé. He featured for the national team at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games, where he reached the quarterfinals.
Geko won gold at the 2018 Bingwa wa Ma Bingwa championships in Tanzania and also in 2022 in Burundi.
Joseph Kalema (minimum weight)
Kalema is the most senior boxer on the team, with a career that began as early as 2005. Aged 36, he prides himself in winning bronze at the 2011 East Africa Championships.
Wasswa Ssali (lightweight)
Ssali is a product of Lukanga Boxing Club and will likely replicate the success of his boxing mentor on the continental stage.
Muzamir Ssemuddu (light-middleweight)
Ssemuddu is an electric boxer who has shown no respect for senior boxers, including national team stars in the Uganda Boxing Federation Champions League.
The 21-year-old won gold at the national opener and was awarded the best boxer in the youth category.
Ronald Okello (middleweight)
Okello is a fast-rising resilient boxer, having featured in the 2020 national team trials for Africa Olympic Qualifiers in Dakar, Senegal.
Having missed the slot, the 2018 and 2019 national champion in the youth ranks honed his craft and has made it to the national team.
Lawrence Kayiwa (cruiserweight)
A post-Covid-relation, Kayiwa, is popular in boxing circles thanks to his entertaining ring entrances.
He is a passionate fighter who goes for the kill. Blessed with enormous strength to last the distance, Kayiwa, having no record in youth ranks, shocked established boxers to win gold at national trials in 2021.
Idris Mukiibi (light heavyweight)
Mukiibi is making his second return to the continental championships, having reached the quarterfinals last year in Maputo.
He hails from a sporting family and is the son of football legend Majid Musisi.
James Baraka (super heavyweight)
Baraka stormed the boxing scene having previously no youth record. He won gold at the 2023 national boxing and East African Club Championships.
