Anthony Joshua vs Daniel Dubois
Negotiations for Joshua's September matchup with fellow Brit Daniel Dubois have started.
Joshua who is 34, was present at the ring when Dubois defeated Filip Hrgovic last Saturday in Saudi Arabia. He is scheduled to fight at Wembley Stadium on September 21.
Frank Warren, Dubois' promoter, verified that negotiations were under progress.
Joshua took to social media to post a message that said, "The hardest part about my job is realising you have to ruin someone else’s dream to achieve yours."
In their IBF "interim" title match, 26-year-old Dubois defeated Hrgovic, placing himself in a strong position to be announced as Oleksandr Usyk's next mandatory challenger.
In order for his undisputed title to be on the line when he faces Tyson Fury in their rematch on December 21, Ukrainian Usyk has asked that his IBF belt not be taken away.
Should the IBF choose to disqualify Usyk, Dubois might be crowned world champion, which would turn a matchup with Joshua into a championship match.
Joshua, a two-time unified world champion, is currently riding a four-fight winning streak.
Joshua has successfully rebuilt himself after dropping the world titles to Usyk in back-to-back losses. In his four victories, he has produced three stoppages.
After losing his own attempt to unseat Usyk in August 2023, Dubois has also been making a return, having won two matches.
The Londoner defeated Hrgovic and Jarrell Miller; in the latter match, Dubois was the underdog.
